Montevertine is my essential Tuscan red wine producer. They're located in the Chianti Classico region, an area that is easy to fall in love, especially once you know where to look. The wines of the Classico region are ethereal, reflecting the high hills the vineyards are perched on. Montevertine distanced themselves from the labeling of the region quite a long time ago though, interested instead in expressing the the terrior and beautiful Sangiovese grapes they produce without adhering to specific regulations. We're talking a winemaking region with serious history and a wine that is deeply tied to the Tuscan culture. Everytime I drink one of these wines, I crave the Tuscan butcher shop experience. The newest releases from Montevertine are a treat. The Pian Del Ciampolo with notes of cherry, lavender, and earth. A mere perfect example of Chianti Classico. The Montevertine Rosso di Toscana, from the gracious 2015 vintage, has gorgeous aromas of black cherry, smoke tinged flowers, and sweet tobacco. Cheers!
